This 6 Days Rwanda gorilla safari offers you a great opportunity to trek the critically endangered African mountain gorillas in the wild, also visit Gisozi genocide memorial museum in Kigali, adventurous hike to Dian Fossey Tombs or Mt. Bishoke / Vishoke climbing or Musanze caves exploration.
Day 1: Arrival at Kanombe International Airport
You will be received by a representative from Africa Nature Trekkers and one of our drivers / safari guide at Kanombe International Airport who will welcome you and drive to your respective accommodation in Kigali. If you arrive early enough, you to take city tour visiting the genocide museum, the art and craft center, local markets, etc.
Day 2: Transfer to Parc National des Volcanoes
You will be pick up from Kigali at 10AM in the morning and transferred north on a scenic drive through Rwandan countryside to Ruhengeri township in the foothills of the Virunga volcanoes.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking& Lakes Burera,Ruhondo Tour
After a heavy breakfast, you will be led to the ORTPN head offices for registration and briefing on the Gorilla tracking rules. After this, you will be allocated a Gorilla tracking group. This very exciting activity will take you through the Virunga mountainous forest on its slopes. An encounter with the gorillas is the highlight of any Rwanda tour. Time taken to encounter these gentle apes ranges between 2 to 8 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas on that particular day.During the 1 hour of interacting with the great apes, you will get to know their behavior and feeding pattern. You can take as many pictures as youso wish. You will return to your lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, you will take a tour to the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo. This will offer you stunning panoramic views of the volcanic mountains.
Day 4: Dian Fossey Visit
This morning, you will participate in the trek to Karisoke Gorilla Research Centre which Dian Fossey, the famous primatologist set up. Because of her struggle to protect the endangered mountain gorilla in Rwanda, a voluntary project was found called; Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International. Please note that this adventurous activity also takes a full day.
Day 5: Golden Monkey Tracking
This morning after an early breakfast, drive to the park headquarters and take part in an adventure, tracking the “Little Primates” of the Virungas, the Golden Monkey, now listed as endangered because of their small numbers. You will be part of a select group of a maximum of 6 people, and the track will take most of the day. After the trek, return to the lodge for relaxation or a community walk.
Day 6: Transfer to Kigali – Departure
Leave for Kigali in Rwanda via Kabale and Katuna, Time permitting, go for a tour of the city including a visit to the market, a pottery project, handicraft shops, and the genocide memorial. Transfer to the airport to catch your return home flight.
