Day 1: Arrival in Kigali at Kanombe International Airport

You will be received by a representative from Africa Nature Trekkers and one of our drivers / safari guide at Kanombe International Airport who will welcome you and drive you to your respective accommodation in Kigali for overnight.

Day 2: Depart for Nyungwe Forest National Park

After an early morning breakfast, transfer to Nyungwe forest national park en route visiting the traditional palace of Rwanda’s Former King in Nyanza. Drive past green fields of tea scattered on the hillside slopes and the small wooden houses unique to the areas surrounding Nyungwe Forest. This drive may take you approximately 6 hours. Overnight at Gisakura Guest House / Nyungwe Forest Lodge

Day 3: Nyungwe Forest Guided Canopy Nature Walks

After early morning breakfast, set out for the canopy walk in the forest. This experience is perfect for birders and those interested in nature and jungle trekking. While enjoying the canopy walk, look out for colourful species such as the RwenzoriTuracco, black and white casqued hornbill and also do not miss spots of large troops ofcolobus monkeys. You will return to your place of residence for lunch after which you will go for the afternoon self-guided tour in the areas around Nyungwe forest.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Tracking In Nyungwe Forest

After breakfast at the lodge, you will go for the chimpanzee tracking activity within the forest as early as 6:00am. Take your time and watch the chimpanzees. Besides the Chimpanzees, you look out for other primate species like the Angola colobus monkeys, forest birds, reptiles and butterflies. Return for lunch, relaxation and overnight at Gisakura Guest House / Nyungwe Forest Lodge

Day 5: Drive to Lake Kivufor a Boat Cruise& Photography

After breakfast at the lodge or guest house, transfer to Kibuye town which is located on the shores of Lake Kivu via the breath-taking mountains and deep valleys with lunch en-route. Upon arrival, you can relax at your Hotel or take a boat cruise on Lake Kivu.

Day 6: Transfer to Parc National des Volcans

After breakfast, early morning you will drive to PNV reaching in time for briefing about the Golden Monkey tracking. After the activity, have lunch and in the afternoon visit the Karisoke Research centre which was established by Diane Fossey who was well known as a woman who protected the Mountain Gorillas. The Research center was established for habituation and deeper study of the Mountain Gorillas.

Day 7: Gorilla Tracking

After breakfast at your lodge or guest house, you will head to the park headquarters in Kinigi for a briefing from the ORTPN wardens. After the briefing, you will then head for gorilla tracking with in Parc National des Volcans with the rest of the trackers. Gorilla tracking/trekking can take 2 to 8 hours with in this jungle forest and it depends on the movement of the Gorillas on the previous and that particular day. After tracking, you will retire to your hotel for overnight at Gorilla Nest Hotel / Kinigi Guest House

Day 8: Transfer to Kigali – Departure

After breakfast at the lodge or guest house, we will transfer you to Kigali city. Upon arrival in the city, you will take a short city tour and visit the genocide memorial sites and the traditional markets with in Kigali, craft shops and so on. Later you will be transferred to the airport to be in time to catch your return flight.
