Despite several calls for boycotting safaris to Uganda due to her ‘threatening’ laws against the gays and wearing of mini skirts, the Africa Travel Association based in New York – US is just days from returning to Uganda, for the 39th World Congress. Earlier on ATA had hosted its events here and now Uganda, the Pearl of Africa, is looking forward to yet again support and extend its long known hospitality as it hosts ATA executives plus delegates, most of whom are expected to arrive from the U . S and of course several African countries.
Some 500 extra visitors are expected to come to Kampala for the meetings and many will no doubt travel across the country before or after the event, to see and experience the unique attractions Uganda offers her visitors beyond gorilla tracking, which however remains the backbone of the country’s tourism industry.
The Ugandan Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities has pledged the full support to ATA as has the Uganda Tourism Board which sees the event being held in Uganda as an opportunity to not just showcase the country before, during and after the event but is also banking on getting priceless added publicity in the United States and across the world, helping to promote the country as one of Africa’s leading Adventure Destinations.
Based on ATA’s description of this function, this is the signature event of ATA in Africa and offers a networking, learning as well as agenda-shaping base for the most varied selection of tourism sector stakeholders of any kind of travel sector event on the African continent. This event handles timely tourism business topics, provides a lineup of not only educational but also professional development possibilities and also exhibits the host Destination’s most recent tourism products and services. in addition, the Delegates have an opportunity to be involved in ATA’s networking events, Young Professionals Program forum, African Bazaar, a tourism ministers’ roundtable, gala dinners business-to-business meetings, networking events, host country days, as well as pre- and post- tours in the host country
